Probation and rehabilitation sector update — 19 October 2026

Week covered: 12–18 October 2026. Checked: 19 October 2026.

This week brings developments in community rehabilitation and probation inspection, plus an approaching local funding deadline.

Three women’s Intensive Supervision Courts open

On 15 October, the Ministry of Justice confirmed courts in West Yorkshire, Merseyside and Northumbria had opened. The model combines judicial oversight with treatment and specialist support. This is an operational expansion, not a Northamptonshire rollout or an open grant invitation. For community providers, it offers a service model to study when developing partnerships.

Probation inspection guidance sets out partner involvement

The guidance manual published on 13 October describes a revised inspection programme starting at the end of 2026. It includes multi-agency learning panels involving relevant voluntary-sector partners. Providers can prepare clear records of joint decisions, referrals and progress. The manual concerns inspection arrangements; it does not award contracts.

Approved-premises inspection highlights recording gaps

The Kew Approved Premises report, published on 14 October, identifies gaps in recording partner-delivered rehabilitation and recommends formal information-sharing and recording arrangements. It offers a practical lesson for organisations supporting residents across agencies. These are findings about one service, not a national assessment.

Deadline reminder: North Northamptonshire community grants

This existing fund closes at 12 noon on Monday 26 October 2026, with grants up to £5,000. Not-for-profit organisations can apply, subject to the full criteria. Projects must fit the council’s priorities and geographic restrictions. CIC status alone does not establish eligibility. Check the terms before committing to an application.

Reader question: is the local fund new this week?

No. The council page was last updated on 28 September; it is included because the deadline is approaching.
