Probation and rehabilitation sector update — 12 October 2026

Reporting week: 5–11 October 2026. Published and sources rechecked: 15 October 2026.

This roundup covers a local community funding opportunity, probation inspection standards and an updated resettlement directory. These developments may help rehabilitation organisations plan partnerships and review how they describe their support.

West Northamptonshire opens its Neighbourhood Fund

The council announced the fund on 5 October, offering £1,000–£7,500 for projects aligned with specified neighbourhood priorities. Applications close at 10am on 30 November 2026. The announcement includes voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations among eligible groups.

Practical implication: a proposal needs meaningful resident involvement and a clear local health-and-wellbeing fit. Funding can support new work or expansion, but cannot simply continue existing provision. Rehabilitation organisations should check the guidance and their organisation’s eligibility before preparing a bid; being a CIC does not establish eligibility on its own.

Request the application pack through the contact on the council’s Neighbourhood Fund announcement. The advertised 14 October webinar has already passed.

Probation Delivery Unit inspection standards published

HM Inspectorate of Probation published version 1.0 of its Probation Delivery Unit Inspection Standards on 5 October. The document addresses assessment, planning and delivery, including individual strengths, participation, coordination with other services and keeping people safe.

Practical implication: organisations working alongside probation can use the document to review whether support plans explain individual needs, participation, referral arrangements and how progress is reviewed. This is a practical reading of the standards, not a claim that every criterion is newly introduced or a new contractual requirement for CICs.

Resettlement-provider register refreshed

HMPPS updated its England-and-Wales register of prisons and resettlement providers on 8 October. The publication page now identifies the October 2026 edition.

Practical implication: check the latest register when mapping potential referral partners, then confirm arrangements directly. This roundup does not establish that any particular prison’s provider has changed, or that a new commissioning opportunity is open.

Reader questions

Is the Neighbourhood Fund specifically for prison-leaver services?

No. It is a broader local community fund. Any proposed rehabilitation project must fit the published neighbourhood priorities and funding conditions.

Does the updated provider register announce a tender?

The publication is a directory update. It is not, by itself, a tender notice.
